Angel Fire and the Moreno Valley

Angel Fire, New Mexico is a mountain resort village, located 23 miles from Taos, and 152 miles from Albuquerque.  Nestled in the high alpine Moreno Valley, the village has views of the Wheeler Peak wilderness area at 13,161 feet, Baldy Peak at 12,441 feet, and Agua Fria Peak at 11,086 feet.  Angel Fire is a small but booming village, with a population less than 2000 year round and seasonal residents.   The principal industry in Angel Fire is tourism, a task for which it is ideally suited.
Angel Fire Skiing
Downhill Skiing Angel Fire

Angel Fire is a vacation destination for people seeking winter activities such as skiing or snowboarding, as well as a summer destination for those who golf, raft, fish and ride horseback.  Angel Fire is a family resort, with activities geared to all age levels.  Some people think the best thing to do in Angel Fire is nothing at all!

The Angel Fire area also offers the golf course, horseback riding and two lakes in the Moreno Valley perfect for fishing to meet the challenge of increasing visitor numbers.

Angel Fire covers quite a large area, over 18,000 acres.  The town is at 8,382' elevation, but many of the mountain homes are quite a bit higher.  Angel Fire has come a long way since the first ski runs were developed in the early 1960's.  Today, it is a booming area with new businesses coming to town, and new homes being built at a record pace.

Be prepared for any weather when you visit Angel Fire.  Although usually sunny, (Angel Fire has an average 345 sunny days each year), temperatures can vary widely.  During the winter, December high temperatures may reach the 40s, with lows about 15 degrees. In January, it may dip below zero.  In summer, high temperatures average 70 in June, while July and August see temperatures in the high seventies.  Night time summer lows are in the 30s and 40s.  You really don't need an air conditioner here!

Expect snow....anytime from October through early June.  Average snow in the village is 140 inches, while at the ski area it averages 210 inches.  That's 17-1/2 fet of snow!  The 2004-2005 ski season actually saw 256 inches of snow.
